About Diondre “Dre” Overton

Diondre Marquez “Dre” Overton (1998–2024) was more than an accomplished athlete—he was a son, brother, friend, and leader whose kindness and character touched everyone he met. Born in Greenville, North Carolina, Dre grew up surrounded by a strong village of family and friends who shaped him into a humble, caring, and respectful young man.

A gifted student-athlete, Dre excelled in both basketball and football from an early age, eventually becoming a two-sport standout at Walter Hines Page High School and later a beloved wide receiver at Clemson University. His radiant smile, encouraging spirit, and ability to make everyone feel valued set him apart both on and off the field.

Dre’s legacy extends far beyond athletics. Friends and family remember him as “the glue” that held people together, a dependable role model who celebrated others’ successes as much as his own. Whether cooking pancakes for friends’ families, cheering on his teammates, or offering encouragement during tough times, Dre’s compassion and positivity left a lasting impact.

Though his life was tragically cut short, his light continues to shine through the lives he inspired and the legacy he leaves behind.
