Diondre Marquez “Dre” Overton was born on April 19, 1998, in Greenville, North Carolina, into a family rich with love, faith, and community. The youngest of four children to his mother and later the oldest of five to his father, Dre was raised within a strong village that poured into him values of humility, respect, discipline, and compassion. From the very beginning, his spirit was gentle and calm—an easygoing baby whose steady temperament quietly foretold the remarkable man he would become.

 

From an early age, Dre stood out—not because he sought attention, but because excellence seemed to follow him naturally. At eight years old, he began playing Pop Warner football and recreational basketball, where his deep love for basketball quickly emerged. He was bright and focused, earning A’s and B’s, respecting rules at home and school, and carrying himself with a maturity beyond his years. Dre listened. He learned. When corrected, his responses—“Alright,” “Yes, sir,” “Yes, ma’am”—were never forced, but sincere reflections of a respectful heart.

At just 13 years old, Dre spoke his dreams aloud. He wanted to play professional basketball. He wanted to be known. What he couldn’t yet see was that his name would one day carry meaning far beyond athletics—because of how he lived, how he loved, and how he treated others.
